This wasn't a terribly easy lake for me to learn because the available maps are pretty poor. Fished 10am-3pmTried casting topwater lures and spinnerbaits today on the shallows near dredge lines today hoping for bass or pike, and got skunked again. We start our open water guided fishing trips as soon as the boat landings are free of ice, for walleyes and perch. Every trip with me is an experience. Not sure of your river fishing experience but with what works today probably be different by end of week due to water level / temperature. There is always a good bite on the Mississippi river. Number two, are there any rock piles or areas I need to worry about leaving my lower unit on the bottom of the lake or bang up my prop? Anybody know if it's been re-opened? Surface area is around 8,000 acres, but I've only found about 10-20% of that is comfortably navigable in a deep-V. Onalaska is a great destination for ice fishing as well. There are a couple dredge lines off of Mosey that arc around the islands to the east. This area of Lake Oahe is known as a staging area for giant walleyes, pike and crappies and holds big schools of fish during the winter months. The rest is just too shallow for my liking. )The best dates go quickly, so book your trip of a lifetime now!

Advance reservations are recommended, but last minute bookings can be made. I've had better luck working the edges of the dredge lines than I have focusing on the islands. I went out today for the first time on like Onalaska. I am looking for pike and largemouth. I fish from a Tracker Tundra 18 foot boat equipped with Lowrance HDS GPS sonars and a Motorguide xi5 trolling motor, providing perfect client presentation from either bow or stern casting platforms. Fished from 5:45am to 10amWater temp showed 59 degrees both days. If you have the $$$ spend time with a local guide it will save you a lot of trips on the water. Mostly musky and like fishing. I am out fishing on a daily basis so I am always on the hottest bite for that time of season.
