and "Southern Soldier Boy," I would still buy it. That is a minor quibble, however, because this disc rewards repeated listening, and features fine performances by Kathy Mattea, Hoyt Axton, Waylon Jennings, Judy Collins, John Hartford, the McGarrigle sisters, Richie Havens and Ronnie Gilbert.





This is an excellent collection of music.

I purchased this album because my nine-year-old son needed background music for his Civil War presentation at our homeschool group's history fair. Like I said, this was supposed to be background music to set a mood only.

I have an interest in how songs reflect the time in which they were written. Songs of the Civil War is a compilation album, released in 1991 by Columbia, that presents an assortment of contemporary performers recording period pieces and traditional songs, most of which date back to the American Civil War.

I got this of the back of hearing the radio 2 programme on the music of the civil war.

I have played this CD several times over the last couple of months, and I enjoy it each time I hear it. Overall, it is much more satisfying than the instrumental disc.





It was easy to listen to and I play it frequently. Our goal was to promote learning and this music definitely contributed to our goal's success!
