We had to walk to the beach in what appeared to be sewer water and trash water, like knee deep water for 4 days !!! Other campers said this park use to be great before a hurricane hit a few years ago, but now it is not well kept and mosquitoes are horrible. The walk to the beach was easy but there were no trees and it did get very hot in that spot. It may be South Carolina's most visited state park, but that doesn't stop this secluded barrier island located 15 miles east of Beaufort from being one of the most picturesque destinations in the South, thanks to its famous lighthouse, pristine beaches, and popular fishing lagoon. Not to keep complaining, but a park worker should have come around and talked to campers about the situation! We have camped at several other beaches but this is one that we will never return to!This was by far the best camping experience I've had in a while!
