I didn't have a clue what this film was about so was very shocked when I watched it and saw it was a story about the love between two men who eventually married women but carried on seeing each other behind their wives backs until one of them dies. I am in no way homophobic, but the film lingers on these heavy feelings too much and doesn't explore the other relationships enough to care when things inevitably fall apart. Read Less. I should also mention the supporting cast, a few of whom I was surprised to see (but not in a bad way). The movie occasionally drags, but in the end it is a powerful film featuring excellent acting and excellent writing. Ledger plays the grisly Ennis Del Mar who is cowboy through and through, with a growl in his voice and the main reason this love story cannot have a happy ending.
