I was able to solve this by applying seam grip to the repair, but once dry it left a hard lump which was less than ideal. The waist can be adjusted by an internal webbing belt, which works well. When working hard in extreme conditions, you need legwear which will offer all-day comfort, unrestricted movement and protection from cold and wet conditions.
