The development of Cristom Vineyards is the result of a twenty-plus-year collaboration between an engineer, a winemaker and a farmer - who are, first and foremost, stewards of the land. 26 years later, second-generation owner-winegrower Tom Gerrie leads winemaker Steve Doerner and our tenured viticulture team in tending our estate vineyards, and producing elegant, dynamic wines, recognizable by our hallmark style of whole-cluster fermentation by native yeasts. He is now a partner in the winery with Paul Gerrie. What began as a shared vision between Paul Gerrie and veteran winemaker, Steve Dorner—then the longtime winemaker at California’s pioneering Central Coast winery, Calera—has since blossomed. Steve Doerner was the first winemaker at Calera Wine Company and has been Cristom’s winemaker since the winery’s first vintage in 1992.
