The Russian River Valley AVA is an American Viticultural Area (AVA) in Sonoma County, California.Centered on the Russian River, the Russian River Valley AVA accounts for about one-sixth of the total planted vineyard acreage in Sonoma County. It's fitting that the Russian River Valley appellation lies at the geographical heart of Sonoma County.This is where some of wine country's best known and most beloved varietals really earned their reputation. Wineries located within the Russian River Valley are not alone in making wines with Russian River Valley … I have been visiting MacRostie Winery since they first opened (4-5 years ago) and have Views from my favorite outside table (the corner) of our amazing spread. I could ask her anything I wanted to learn more about and she would have the answer.Another of the Russian River Wineries that’s fabulous is Copain Wines is a Winery that makes you feel like you’re in Sonoma at a completely relaxed, laid back setting. (When attending a summer barbecue in the Russian River Valley, one is well advised to bring a sweater.) Current Winemaker Tom Rochioli’s father Joe started the winery over 80 years ago and it’s remained family-owned and operated ever since. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Sauvignon Blanc are next in acreage, but the small amount of cool-climate Syrah produced here may get more attention among wine collectors. The Green Valley of the Russian River Valley AVA is nested within the Russian River Valley. I also had the chance to visit for a Media & Blogger visit to Bucher Vineyards (which is not open to the public but used for private events). The Healdsburg wine country area has some of the most beautiful backroads where travelers can discover small family-owned wineries.
