Born Sergi López i Ayats on 22nd December, 1965 in Vilanova i la Geltrú, Catalonia, he is famous for Pan`s Labyrinth in a career that spans 1965–present. As a youth he was inclined towards the performance arts and headed to France for further studies in the field.

In 1997 Sergi appeared in Catalan auteur Ventura Pons' "Caricies" that also showcased Spain's finest actors. Has a paper written on his work and Spanish stereotypes, titled "Why Spaniards make good bad guys: Sergi Lopez and the Persistence of the Black Legend in contemporary European cinema" by Professor Samuel Amago. I think it is great that the film does not consider any justification of fascism. He starts an affair and, as the film develops, it is evident that he has left his family to be with her.
